Turning Points
Michael’s new work Turning Points, commissioned and recorded by The Dionysus Ensemble, has been released on streaming platforms.

The piece, written for clarinet, harp and string quartet, reflects on the small but meaningful shifts that help us find balance, purpose, and a sense of presence in our lives.
1. New beginnings
Inspired by lived experiences of mental health self-management, ‘New beginnings’ captures the quiet courage required to take those first steps forward, while acknowledging the ever-present inner voice that shapes our experience.
2. Connections
The second movement focuses on the importance of human connection. Feelings of wellbeing often begin with the relationships we build and the support we offer one another. Musically, ‘Connections’ starts with independent lines that slowly intertwine, reflecting how bonds develop through simple gestures and shared moments.
3. Moments
The final movement turns inward, inviting the listener to focus on the present moment. With spacious textures and gentle rhythmic pulses, ‘Moments’ encourages a slowing of pace, allowing fragments of melody to emerge and fade. In this way, the music mirrors the natural ebb and flow of thoughts and sensations, offering a sense of calm and reflection as the work draws to a close.
